FIGHT CANCER

WITH PREVENTION

ECP PREVENT CANCER

DIET

The goal for cancer prevention in Europe will remain a healthy diet and obesity control as well as eliminating smoking. A healthy diet model in European countries is the traditional Mediterranean diet, which is based on abundant and variable plant foods, high consumption of cereals, olive oil as the main (added) fat, low consumption of (red) meat and low consumption of wine.

Screening

Screening programs reduce cancer-specific mortality in the population invited for periodic checks. Mammography, PAP test, PSA dosage and fecal occult blood testing are the most widespread screening programs in the area. New screening programs involve the search for early tumors in heavy smokers with the use of “low-dose” chest CT scans.
An example. By getting a mammogram every two years, women between the ages of 50 and 69 can reduce their risk of dying from breast cancer by 35%.

Vaccines

Immunization against infectious diseases, for example the use of vaccines that prevent cancer: human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical cancer and oropharyngeal cancers and hepatitis B vaccine to prevent HBV, associated to hepatocellular carcinoma.

04 Oct: “VAPING” WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW

The health risks associated with the use of e-cigarettes, initially promoted as safer alternatives to tobacco. Research highlights mechanisms detrimental to health, including effects at the cellular and genetic levels. The article also highlights how the perception of safety, especially among young people, can be misleading and potentially dangerous.
